Officers

These are the current 2009-2010 AED officers and the descriptions of their positions. If you have any questions, feel free to send an email to any of these officers. Their emails are listed below.

Coffee Break with an Upperclassman Officer: The officers are available as an additional resource to answer any questions you may have concerning AED, the medical school admissions process, or anything else you might want to know about. Several of the upperclassmen officers have provided descriptions of their activities and experiences as well as where they are in their medical school application process. They would LOVE to meet up with you for coffee and conversation.

President: Jenny Raasch (jraasch@wisc.edu)

Oversees all chapter functions. Runs chapter and officer meetings, appoints committees, and ensures officers and committees perform their duties. Runs the initiation ceremony for new or honorary members and officer elections. Must have excellent leadership and communication skills, as they must stay in contact with other officers, members, speakers, the chapter advisor, and the national office.

Vice President: Tyler VanDyck (tvandyck@wisc.edu)

The right-hand man to the president, taking on tasks delegated by the president that involve (but are not limited to): arranging speakers for meetings, writing thank-you notes, organizing the Initiation Ceremony and the Pre-Law vs. Pre-Med Challenge, setting up social and volunteer activities, etc. Assists the president and other officers by volunteering to perform tasks not covered by other officers.

Treasurer: Sarah Sanders (snsanders@wisc.edu)

Business and financial matters of AED. Works with the President and Secretary in keeping an extremely accurate and updated record of all incoming and outgoing funds, maintains the AED bank account, and budgets AED money spent over the course of the year by planning and preparation. Applies for and proceeds with grants and fundraising activities from on-campus and off-campus organizations.

Co-secretary: Jessica DeValk (jdevalk@wisc.edu)

Compiles and relays information between the officers and the members. Duties include recording minutes at officer meetings, writing the meeting sheets, and maintaining a record of the attendance and participation in AED activities of all of the members. Requires strong organizational and communication skills, and should also always be looking for opportunities and experiences for the chapter.

Technology Chair: Jason Adkins (jadkins@wisc.edu)

The Technology Chair designs and maintains the Alpha Epsilon Delta website (updating the member record, activites, and meeting information, as well as any other website updates). The technology chair also deals with technological needs of the society whenever they arise. The technology chair should have experience with e-mail, source coding, webpage design, HTML, VPN, and FTP.

Co-Historian: Andrew Berry (aberry@wisc.edu)

Prepares a synopsis of our chapter's activities at the end of the year to be used in the biennial report. Also, a short summary of each semester is needed for publication in The Scalpel, AED's magazine. Finally, taking pictures at AED events is mostly the historian's duty. These pictures are then used by the historian to make posters to display at initiation and student organization fairs.

The volunteer co-chairs are responsible for providing a variety of volunteer activities for members of AED. This entails contacting and corresponding with various organizations, arranging transportation, finding a contact person (if unable to attend), and corresponding with interested participants.

When ideas for socials are brought up at officer meetings or from members, the social chair is responsible for contacting and corresponding with the location of the social and interested members. For larger socials, such as the Spring Formal and Medical School trips, the social chair is responsible for heading a committee for that event.

Receives all e-mails sent to aed@rso.wisc.edu to answer basic questions about AED.  This person works with the president and other officers to help publicize special speakers when we want to invite all UW students to attend.  Responsible for posting our meetings on Today @ UW and contacts campus newspapers for kick-off advertisements, or anything else we would like to publicize.

Co-Public Relations: Swathi Damodaran (damodaran@wisc.edu)

Receives all e-mails sent to aed@rso.wisc.edu to answer basic questions about AED.  This person works with the president and other officers to help publicize special speakers when we want to invite all UW students to attend.  Responsible for posting our meetings on Today @ UW and contacts campus newspapers for kick-off advertisements, or anything else we would like to publicize.

Senior Board Rep: Kevin Shepet (shepet@wisc.edu)

The job of a senior board member basically consists of assisting with the direction of various volunteer and social activities coordinated through AED. In addition, a senior board representative should be receptive to the concerns of his/her peers, incorporating feedback they hear from other AED members to take an active role in devising new or improving existing AED activities.
